Deze soort komt voor van Venezuela tot Peru en telt 7 ondersoorten: Asthenes wyatti wyatti: de oostelijke Andes van noordelijk Colombia. Asthenes wyatti sanctaemartae: de bergen van Santa Marta (noordoostelijk Colombia). Asthenes wyatti perijana: noordoostelijk Colombia en noordwestelijk Venezuela. Asthenes wyatti mucuchiesi: Mérida en Trujillo (westelijk Venezuela). Asthenes wyatti aequatorialis: centraal Ecuador. Asthenes wyatti azuay: zuidelijk Ecuador. Asthenes wyatti graminicola: centraal en zuidelijk Peru.
