Feeding Habits
Striated Thornbill, an insectivorous bird, primarily forages in eucalypt canopies by gleaning leaves for insects and sometimes hangs upside-down. It feeds on sunshine wattle nectaries, aiding in pollination.
Habitat
The striated Thornbill predominantly resides in open forests and woodlands, specifically thriving in eucalypt (Eucalyptus) forests and woodlands with a substantial shrub layer. Habitats such as mallee and riparian woodlands, mallee shrublands, and occasionally rainforests and dense thickets are also favorable. They show a preference for tall forests and can adapt to agricultural areas with eucalypts and remaining natural vegetation. Edges of forests and sometimes suburban gardens with mature vegetation can also host this species, though they tend to avoid exotic pine (Pinus) plantations. Striated Thornbill occupy a range from coastal regions over the Great Dividing Range to the fringes of semi-arid interiors, at elevations extending from sea level to subalpine zones.
