Description
The variable goshawk (Accipiter hiogaster) is a bird of prey native to Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. It was recently elevated to species status, and was previously lumped together with the grey goshawk. Habitat
Variable Goshawk predominantly inhabits a range of wooded environments, which include rainforests, open and secondary-growth forests, as well as forest margins that transition into open lands. This species is also known to occupy riverine forests, savannas, and various anthropogenic landscapes such as tree plantations, agricultural fields in varying degrees of use, botanical gardens, and suburban parks. They exhibit a particular affinity for coconut groves and are frequently found in such modified habitats within their distribution range.
