Description

The yellow-naped amazon is distinguished by its green forehead and crown and a yellow band across the lower nape (back part of neck) and hindneck. The beak is dark gray and is paler towards the base of the upper mandible. The feet are also dark gray.

Feeding Habits
Yellow-naped Amazon consumes a varied diet including nuts, berries, seeds, and fruit. Foraging behavior often involves searching for food among trees. This species exhibits a particular fondness for certain fruits, aligning with their unique dietary preferences.
Habitat
Yellow-naped Amazon typically resides in a range of dry to moist habitats along the Pacific Coast, favoring semi-arid woodlands, arid scrub, and savannas, which may include pine woodlands. These birds can also be found in gaps within tropical deciduous and swamp forests, as well as evergreen gallery forests. Occasionally, yellow-naped Amazon adapts to secondary growth in agricultural landscapes. Its elevation range extends up to 600 meters in Guatemala and up to 700 meters in Honduras, showcasing its adaptability to various altitudinal habitats.
Nest Behavior
The breeding season for yellow-naped Amazon sees nest preparation beginning without elaborate construction. Egg laying follows a schedule of 3-4 eggs, with incubation spanning 26-28 days. Both parents engage in rearing the chicks, which fledge at 8-12 weeks.
Nest Characteristics
Yellow-naped Amazon often chooses tree cavities for nesting, utilizing natural hollows or spaces previously occupied by woodpeckers. The nests are usually lined with wood chips, without additional construction. They are typically found at various heights, depending on the availability of suitable locations.
