Description
The red-crested cotinga (Ampelion rubrocristatus) is a species of bird in the family Cotingidae. It is found in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist montane forests and heavily degraded former forest.

Red-crested Cotinga primarily consumes fruits from at least 8 different plant families but also eats insects occasionally. Feeds by aerial sallying to pluck fruit or by sallying from perches to catch flying insects. May forage in groups of up to six.

The red-crested Cotinga is commonly found in areas where cloudforest margins give way to patches of trees and shrubs, and it can also be seen in regions where agricultural landscapes are interspersed with hedgerows and trees.
