White-cheeked Pintail, an omnivore, dabbles for aquatic vegetation, seeds, and small invertebrates. It displays selective feeding behaviors, showing preference for certain foods, and is adapted for surface foraging in wetlands.
Habitat
White-cheeked Pintail typically resides in saline or brackish environments, favoring habitats like mangrove swamps, coastal lagoons, and estuaries. These birds are less common in freshwater habitats but can be found in marshes, reservoirs, and sewage ponds. They may inhabit elevated regions, such as the Andes, where they are found up to 2500 meters and occasionally at higher altitudes. In agricultural settings, such as rice fields, white-cheeked Pintail is known to make its presence as well, especially in island areas where they are more versatile in their habitat preferences.
