Description
The scarlet-bellied mountain tanager (Anisognathus igniventris) is a species of bird in the family Thraupidae. It is found in Andean forest, woodland and shrub in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. It is sometimes split into two species: The scarlet-bellied mountain tanager (A. lunulatus) ranging north from central Peru, and the fire-bellied mountain tanager (A. igniventris) ranging south from central Peru. The latter has a lighter, more orangish belly than the former.

Habitat
The habitat of scarlet-bellied Mountain Tanager predominantly comprises upper montane and elfin forests, as well as alpine and subalpine shrublands. These birds are also familiar with human-altered landscapes, including agricultural hedgerows, pastures, secondary forests, and selectively logged areas. Scarlet-bellied Mountain Tanager shows a preference for mature forest patches and tends to inhabit regions that are less humid compared to their close relatives, favoring areas that offer a blend of denser woodlands and more open, shrubby environments.
