Description
The lacrimose mountain tanager (Anisognathus lacrymosus) is a species of bird in the family Thraupidae. It is found in Andean highland forest from Venezuela, through Colombia and Ecuador, to Peru. Some of its 11 subspecies are quite distinctive and A. l. yariguierum was only scientifically described in 2010.

Feeding Habits
Lacrimose Mountain Tanager's primary diet consists of fruits and insects, including berries from melastomes and Schefflera. It forages in bushes and trees within mixed flocks, sometimes pausing to rest conspicuously. Lacrimose Mountain Tanager shows a preference for vegetable matter but also consumes insects, demonstrating varied feeding behaviors from gleaning to awkward sallying flights.
Habitat
The lacrimose Mountain Tanager primarily resides in humid and wet montane forests, including shrubby forest borders and stunted mossy forests near the tree-line. It is also found in highland woodlands and patches of Polylepis vegetation above the tree-line. The species is typically encountered within broad geographical regions featuring cloud-drenched high-altitude forests.
