Description
The Santa Marta mountain tanager (Anisognathus melanogenys), also known as the black-cheeked mountain tanager, is a species of bird in the family Thraupidae. It is endemic to highland forest in the Santa Marta Mountains in Colombia. It is closely related to the widespread lacrimose mountain tanager, but the distributions of the two do not overlap.

Santa Marta Mountain Tanager consumes small fruits and likely insects, foraging in subcanopy or lower in pairs or small groups. They join mixed-species flocks at fruiting plants, moving conspicuously on mossy branches during various times.
Habitat
Santa Marta Mountain Tanager primarily inhabits the fringes of moist, mossy forests, as well as secondary woodlands and areas of regrowth within pastures. This species is also found in montane forests but is less common in these interior habitats. It exhibits adaptability to a range of forested environments in highland regions.
