Description

The swan Goose is a large goose of inland areas, domesticated 3,000 years ago and rarely encountered in the wild. Due to habitat loss, hunting, and egg collecting, the species is listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. Although their habitat is strictly related to inland water, they rarely swim. Most of the time, they graze on coastal vegetation. They are sociable and show teamwork during their long-distance journeys and migration flights.

Habitat
The swan Goose is typically associated with wet habitats in temperate regions. This bird is often found in freshwater environments like lakes, ponds, rivers, and streams, as well as marshes, swamps, and other wetlands. The swan Goose also frequents brackish waters and is commonly seen in coastal areas, estuaries, and tidal mudflats. During the breeding season, it prefers reedbeds along rivers and grassy marshland. In the non-breeding season, it can adapt to drier areas such as steppes and agricultural lands like rice fields.
