Feeding Habits
Bar-headed Goose primarily consumes grains such as barley, rice, and wheat and may forage in agricultural fields, leading to potential crop damage. This bird exhibits unique adaptations for feeding at high altitudes during migration.
Habitat
Bar-headed Goose are highly adapted to a unique high-elevation habitat, breeding predominantly in Central Asian highland plateaux, often at altitudes of 4000-5300 meters. They favor wetland environments near mountain lakes, nestled among short grasslands and occasionally near rocky outcrops, capitalizing on the sparse vegetation for grazing. In the winter months, bar-headed Goose descend to lower altitudes, seeking the relatively warmer climates of lowland swamps, lakes, rivers, and cultivated fields for their wintering grounds.
