Description
The brown-throated sunbird is a relatively large, heavy sunbird with a thick bill. Measuring some 14 centimetres (5.5 in) in length, it has a mass of 7.4–13.5 g (0.26–0.48 oz), with males averaging slightly larger than females. Like most sunbirds, the male brown-throated sunbird is more colourful than the female. The male has iridescent green and purple upperparts with chestnut on the wing-coverts and scapulars; it is primarily yellow below. The female is olive-green above and yellowish below.

Brown-throated Sunbird primarily feed on nectar but also consume insects, terrestrial non-insect arthropods, terrestrial worms, fruit, and pollen. They exhibit unique hovering and agile flying behaviors while foraging, often seen feeding at flowering plants.
Habitat
Brown-throated Sunbird primarily inhabits a range of tropical terrestrial environments. These birds are adaptable and not restricted to forest interiors; instead, they can be found in mangroves, plantations, scrublands, swampy areas, agricultural regions, coconut groves, areas of secondary growth, and even urban and suburban gardens. They are common in estuarine zones as well as riparian habitats along watercourses. Brown-throated Sunbird occur from sea level to elevations of up to 1200 meters across broad tropical regions.
