Description
The correndera pipit (Anthus correndera) is a species of bird in the family Motacillidae. It is found in Argentina, Bolivia, southern Brazil, Chile, the Falkland Islands, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay. Its natural habitats are temperate grassland, subtropical or tropical high-altitude grassland, and pastureland.
Size
16 cm
Feeding Habits
Correndera Pipit primarily consumes adult and larval insects, other invertebrates, and likely seeds. It forages on the ground, moving in typical pipit fashion. Chicks are fed small worms and lepidopterans. Correndera Pipit displays no unique dietary adaptations.
Habitat
Correndera Pipit typically inhabits a range of open grassy environments, including puna grassland on arid plateaux, pastures, agricultural lands, as well as wetter areas such as bogs and lakeshores that are characterized by short grass and scattered rushes. They are also found in broader grasslands, wetland edges, and the Patagonian steppe. Preferential habitats include large swathes of coarse white grass in damp areas. Often, correndera Pipit can be encountered along grassy roadsides and generally favors lusher and taller grass areas than its relative where their ranges overlap.
