Description
Description
Forbes-Watson's swift (Apus berliozi) is a species of swift in the family Apodidae. It is found in coastal areas of the horn of Africa and the southern Arabian Peninsula and in Socotra.
Size
16 cm
Feeding Habits
Forbes-watson's Swift predominantly consumes small insects such as beetles, ants, grasshoppers, termites, and bugs. Forbes-watson's Swift actively forages in small groups, occasionally forming larger flocks, and drinks regularly from natural and man-made water sources. Remarkably, forbes-watson's Swift seizes the opportunity to feed on winged termites post-rain.
Habitat
The forbes-watson's Swift typically inhabits arid and montane landscapes, demonstrating adaptability by also occupying urban areas. Its breeding preference leans towards coastal cliffs and caves, complemented by foraging over adjacent stabilized dunes. As a non-breeding visitor in broader tropical lowland regions, forbes-watson's Swift is observed over coastal forests.
