Description
The line-fronted canastero (Asthenes urubambensis) is a species of bird in the family Furnariidae. It is found in Bolivia and Peru. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist montane forest and subtropical or tropical high-altitude grassland. It is threatened by habitat loss. Two subspecies are recognized: Asthenes urubambensis huallagae (Zimmer 1924) - Peru Asthenes urubambensis urubambensis (Chapman, 1919) - Peru and Bolivia

Feeding Habits
Line-fronted Canastero primarily feeds on arthropods, foraging alone or in pairs. Uniquely arboreal among its relatives, line-fronted Canastero hops on branches or walks on ground like a pipit. It gleans food from moss, bark, and foliage in low vegetation, occasionally making sally-strikes for grazing.
Habitat
The line-fronted Canastero typically dwells in páramo grassland and at the edges of timberline where mossy scrub, Gynoxis, and Ribes bushes proliferate, often associating with Polylepis woodlands. These habitats characterize environments that typify high Andean ecosystems, favoring open, scrubby terrains with a mix of grass and woody vegetation.
