Description
The Santa Marta brushfinch (Atlapetes melanocephalus) is a species of bird in the family Passerellidae. It is endemic to Colombia. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist montane forest and heavily degraded former forest.

Santa Marta Brushfinch typically inhabits a variety of microhabitats within humid montane forests. These birds are frequently found in shrubbery and at the forest edges, as well as in secondary forests. They are also known to occupy overgrown, brushy pastures and agricultural areas including shade coffee and fruit plantations, along with gardens. Notably, they tend not to dwell in the interiors of mature forests.
