Description
The rufous-eared brushfinch (Atlapetes rufigenis) is a species of bird in the family Passerellidae. It is found at high altitudes in woodland and shrub in the Andes of west-central Peru. It sometimes includes the Apurimac brush finch as a subspecies. It is threatened by habitat loss.

The habitat of rufous-eared Brushfinch consists predominantly of Polylepis and mixed Polylepis/Gynoxys woodlands. These birds are typically found in areas with dense and fairly humid shrubbery adjacent to forest lines. The general environmental conditions of their habitat feature a combination of woodlands and thick underbrush, fostering a certain ecological complexity conducive to their lifestyle.
