Fiery-tailed Awlbill primarily consumes nectar from Clusia and Dioclea shrubs, also catches insects in flight or from beneath leaves. Exhibits trap-lining, a feeding behavior where it visits flowers in a set route.
Habitat
The fiery-tailed Awlbill is typically found in open savanna-like environments and primary forest areas, often in proximity to granite outcrops. These birds frequent regions where semi-deciduous forests blend with cerrado (tropical savanna) as well as in pure cerrado landscapes. They are known to inhabit areas close to river edges and favor foraging at heights of around 1–3 meters above ground.
