Description
Sexes dimorphic. Adult males have an overall dull rufous-brown, a buffish-white collar distinct, bold whits spots on scapular area. White markings characterize the breast, flanks and abdomen. Scalloped pattern of feathers distinct on abdomen. Appears less darkish brown than congenetic Short-tailed Frogmouth. It is only distinguished for the latter by vocalizations. Females paler, cinnamon colored.

Feeding Habits
Sumatran Frogmouth primarily consumes insects such as beetles and Orthoptera. They forage at night using a sit-and-wait tactic to ambush prey, showcasing a specialized diet and nocturnal feeding behavior.
Habitat
Sumatran Frogmouth thrives in a range of forested habitats, typically inhabiting subtropical to tropical moist lowland and montane forests. These environments include both sub-montane primary forests and areas with mixed pine trees. Predominantly found in higher elevations, sumatran Frogmouth is adapted to life between 600 to 1400 meters above sea level, favoring altitudes slightly greater than those of its congeners within the broader geographical regions of Southeast Asia's forested landscapes.
