Description
The maroon woodpecker (Blythipicus rubiginosus) is a species of bird in the family Picidae. It is found in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, southern Myanmar, Singapore, and southern Thailand. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.

Feeding Habits
Maroon Woodpecker primarily consumes beetle larvae and other insect larvae, foraging alone or in pairs within low forest strata, often below 6 meters. It hammers into decayed wood to excavate pits for food, searching on live trees, rotten snags, and fallen logs.
Habitat
The maroon Woodpecker primarily inhabits the understory of both primary and secondary evergreen forests, which often feature dense undergrowth, particularly near small watercourses. This species is also found in areas of second growth, bamboo thickets, and rubber plantations. Its presence is generally noted across broader regions of Southeast Asia's tropical lowland zones, extending into regions with similar environmental conditions.
