Feeding Habits
White-throated Jacamar predominantly hunts flying insects such as Hymenoptera and Lepidoptera, including skippers and butterflies. Perching quietly at canopy level, white-throated Jacamar makes foraging sallies, often in groups, to capture prey mid-air. Unique dietary traits include favoring certain prey sizes and specific insect families.
Habitat
The white-throated Jacamar is typically found in the edges of lowland primary forests, predominantly within regions of varzea or successional riverine habitats. Such environments are characterized by whitewater rivers, with prevalent growth of Gynerium cane, bamboo, and Cecropia trees. Their presence extends to river islands and habitats known as 'Zabolo'. White-throated Jacamar usually inhabits the canopy and midstorey layers of these ecosystems.
