Feeding Habits
Pale-headed Jacamar's diet consists mainly of adult Odonata and Lepidoptera. It feeds acrobatically by sallying from perches to catch flying insects, often from treetops. Distasteful butterflies are avoided, and prey is typically delivered to nestlings during about five hours of daily feeding.
Habitat
The habitat of pale-headed Jacamar encompasses a variety of forested environments including the peripheries of deciduous, secondary, and gallery forests found predominantly in the grassland plains known as llanos. Additionally, pale-headed Jacamar thrives in light open woodlands, dense thickets, forest clearings, and regions of drier savannas. These environments are characterized by their vegetation structure and openness that allow for pale-headed Jacamar's particular foraging and nesting behaviors.
