Description
The Mongolian finch is a small, long-winged bird. It has a large head and short, thick greyish-yellow bill. In breeding plumage, males have a pink flush to their face and underparts, and there are extensive white and pink areas in the wings, a pattern that is also present but less marked in non-breeding plumage.

15 cm
Feeding Habits
Mongolian Finch predominantly consumes small seeds, buds, and shoots, including green seeds for nestlings. Mongolian Finch forages on the ground, adept at extracting seeds from plants and cattle dung. Known for being tame, mongolian Finch forages alone, in pairs, or groups, and undertakes regular dawn and dusk flights to find water.
Habitat
The habitat of mongolian Finch consists mainly of arid to semi-desert regions characterized by montane and submontane environments. These birds are typically found in desolate areas with geological features such as slopes, cliffs, screes, and ravines. They inhabit open, stony or sandy terrains with sparse vegetation like grassy patches or low scrub. Mongolian Finch can also be spotted on the peripheries of alpine meadows and cultivated fields. During the non-breeding season, mongolian Finch frequents similar habitats at comparatively lower altitudes.
Dite type
Granivorous
