Description
The spot-crowned barbet (Capito maculicoronatus) is a species of bird in the family Capitonidae. It is found in Colombia and Panama. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest and heavily degraded former forest.

Spot-crowned Barbet primarily feasts on drupes, fruits, berries, and insects, favoring Orthoptera. It employs unique foraging techniques to locate and extract its food, reflecting an adaptation to its diverse diet.
Habitat
Spot-crowned Barbet typically inhabits moist primary lowland and hilly forests, with a preference for densely vegetated environments. It can occasionally be found in secondary forests as well. This species is generally found at elevations from sea-level up to 600–900 meters, and sporadically it can be encountered up to 1000 meters. In certain regions like the Tacarcuna area of Eastern Panama, spot-crowned Barbet may inhabit areas as high as 1200 meters. These birds are most commonly associated with the humid forest habitats in broader neotropical regions.
