The Nubian nightjar is 20–22 cm long. The bird resembles the Moorish nightjar, but is smaller, has a shorter tail and blunt wings compared to the ̺Moorish nightjar. Another characteristic feature is a red-brown band over the neck. The white wing spots are not further away from the wing tips than other types of nightjars.

Habitat
The habitat of nubian Nightjar includes arid regions with sparse vegetation such as wadis, scrublands composed of Acacia, Commiphora, and Ziziphus species, and tamarisk thickets. It can also be found in areas with dried riverbeds, desert thorn scrub, sandy scrubland, and bushy coastal dunes. Habitats may be located in proximity to water sources and these birds often forage over edges of cultivated lands. Dense Tamarix bush coverage is associated with breeding in some regions, nubian Nightjar may also inhabit climax Acacia/Euphorbia woodlands.
