  The vermilion cardinal (Cardinalis phoeniceus) is a species in the cardinal family (Cardinalidae). It is found in Colombia and Venezuela. It is one of three species in the genus Cardinalis. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical dry shrubland.

  Vermilion Cardinal primarily consumes invertebrates, fruits, and seeds, with a varied diet evidenced by 83% invertebrates, 48% fruits, and 84% seeds in studied samples. Vermilion Cardinal's foraging involves searching through low vegetation, often hidden and sometimes vocalizing. Typically forages alone or in pairs, occasionally in small groups. 
    Habitat 
  Vermilion Cardinal is typically found in semi-arid scrub habitats characterized by an abundance of cacti and thorny leguminous bushes. This bird species prefers environments that are drier and avoids regions with higher moisture levels. Its range extends across broad geographical dry regions, typically at low elevations near sea level.
