Description
The Chinese white-browed rosefinch (Carpodacus dubius) is a true finch species (family Fringillidae). It is found in central China and eastern Tibet. Its natural habitats are temperate forests and temperate shrubland. This species was at one time considered as a subspecies of the Himalayan white-browed rosefinch (Carpodacus thura) but was up-ranked to species status. This was supported by a phylogenetic analysis of DNA sequences.
Feeding Habits
Chinese White-browed Rosefinch primarily consume seeds, buds, shoots, and berries. They forage on the ground and in low bushes, employing hopping and walking. Approachable and social, chinese White-browed Rosefinch occur in pairs or loose flocks, sometimes mixing with other finch species.
Habitat
The habitat of chinese White-browed Rosefinch primarily consists of forest undergrowth, including clearings and edges, particularly where alpine meadows and boulder-strewn slopes intersect the treeline. These birds are also found in open coniferous forests with fir and rhododendron, as well as mixed spruce and birch woodlands. During the non-breeding season, they inhabit similar landscapes, predominantly hillside scrub at lower elevations.
