Feeding Habits
Black-headed Berryeater primarily consumes larger fruits, including those from Myrtaceae family, with a breadth of 9.7–19.6 mm. Although there is a single record of black-headed Berryeater eating a stick-insect, fruits are the main component of its diet. Unique adaptations like its bill shape and lower wing-loading may allow black-headed Berryeater to pluck fruits mid-flight, unlike its relative C. cucullata.
Habitat
The black-headed Berryeater chiefly resides in humid forests characterized by dense vegetation, including areas rich in lianas and spiny palms often situated on dry sandy soil. It is predominant in regions with dense undergrowth and is also known to inhabit tall restinga forests, which are ecosystems typically associated with sandy coastal plains.
