Description
The black-headed nightingale-thrush (Catharus mexicanus) is a species of bird in the family Turdidae. It is found in Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Panama. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest and subtropical or tropical moist montane forest.

Feeding Habits
Black-headed Nightingale-thrush feeds on beetles, caterpillars, and various insects, complemented by a substantial intake of fruit, including species like Psychotria and Cephaelis. Its foraging is marked by rummaging through foliage predominantly at dawn or dusk, showcasing a diet that blends both animal and plant matter.
Habitat
Black-headed Nightingale-thrush thrives in the dense undergrowth of primary humid evergreen forests, often referred to as cloud forests, as well as adjacent secondary growth in both foothills and lower highlands. Optimal elevation ranges from 750 to 1800 meters. These birds exhibit a preference for habitats with close proximity to surface water. While black-headed Nightingale-thrush primarily inhabits wetter forests on the Atlantic slope, it can also be found in slightly drier forests on the Pacific slope. Occasionally, black-headed Nightingale-thrush may explore selectively logged areas within its habitat range.
