Description
The pale-crested woodpecker (Celeus lugubris) is a species of bird in the family Picidae, the woodpeckers and allies. It is found in central Bolivia and the Pantanal region of southwestern Brazil; also in central Paraguay and the border region of northern Argentina. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests and subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests.

Feeding Habits
Pale-crested Woodpecker feeds primarily on ants and their larvae from genera such as Camponotus and Crematogaster. It forages in the middle stratum by probing, gleaning and pecking at dead wood to access ant tunnels, using its sticky tongue to extract prey.
Habitat
The habitat of pale-crested Woodpecker consists mainly of semi-deciduous forests, along with cerrado woodlands and dry Chaco woodlands. This species is often associated with environments rich in palm trees and is typically found in lowland regions.
