The Mato Grosso antbird (Cercomacra melanaria) is a species of bird in the family Thamnophilidae. It is found in Bolivia, Brazil, and Paraguay. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests and subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests.

Feeding Habits
Mato Grosso Antbird mainly consumes insects like spiders, orthopterans, hemipterans, and beetles. They forage alone or with groups, hopping and fluttering from ground to 8 meters high in shady vine thickets or forest understory, frequently utilizing a fan and swinging tail. They are active but methodical, plucking prey from various surfaces, leaf undersides, or leaf litter.
Habitat
The mato Grosso Antbird typically resides in dense, lowland habitats including understorey thickets in gallery forests, tropical deciduous woodlands, and seasonally flooded savanna woodlands. These environments are characterized by a close proximity to water sources and an abundant presence of vines. Preferred territories are lush, with environments like the Pantanal region's gallery forests and swampy woodland hummocks being particularly favored. The species also inhabits dry forests with dense vegetation and an undergrowth rich in bromeliads, commonly found in areas with floristic similarities to the Chaco region.
