14 cm
Feeding Habits
Bar-tailed Treecreeper primarily consumes insects, spiders, and small invertebrates, with occasional seeds. It forages on tree trunks, boughs, and occasionally ground or walls, extracting prey from crevices. Utilizing a fine bill and upward hopping, spiraling motion, bar-tailed Treecreeper may join mixed-species flocks post-breeding.
Habitat
The bar-tailed Treecreeper predominantly inhabits open coniferous forests and forest edges, thriving in ecosystems composed of juniper, pine, spruce, cedar, and fir trees, among others. This species is also found in fruit orchards such as peach and apricot, and high-altitude vegetation like rhododendron and birch areas. During winter, bar-tailed Treecreeper can adapt to a variety of landscapes, including acacia groves, riverine woodlands, orchards, and residential green spaces. Furthermore, they reside in mature pine forests within broader mountainous regions and can occasionally be spotted in treeless semi-desert environs, finding solace in sparse vegetation.
