Description
The bronze-tailed thornbill (Chalcostigma heteropogon) is a species of hummingbird in the family Trochilidae. It is found in Colombia and Venezuela. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical high-altitude grassland.

Bronze-tailed Thornbill primarily consumes nectar from various high-altitude flowers and gleans insects from foliage and mid-air. Exhibits specialized hunting behaviors, including aerial prey-tossing, and defends feeding territories aggressively.
Habitat
The habitat of bronze-tailed Thornbill encompasses semi-arid to humid páramo landscapes, typically characterized by steep rocky slopes adorned with an array of vegetation including ferns, bromeliads, shrubs, and Espeletia plants. These birds are also found at the edges of Polylepis woodlands and other types of stunted woodland, where they actively search for food in the lower vegetative strata.
