Feeding Habits
Yellow-breasted Greenfinch's diet consists of various seeds, including those from pines, alders, thistles, dandelions, and sunflowers, occasionally complemented with berries and insects. They forage by clinging to tall vegetation and feeding in trees or bushes, often in flocks or pairs, displaying gregarious behavior especially outside the breeding season.
Habitat
Yellow-breasted Greenfinch primarily inhabits open forests, including those dominated by oak, rhododendron, and mixed deciduous-conifer varieties, particularly in the Western Himalayas. Preferring forest edges and secondary growth areas, yellow-breasted Greenfinch is also found in habitats with Himalayan blue pine and deodar. The bird is adapted to grassy slopes, terraced hillsides, scrubland, and gardens, often venturing near cultivation areas. During the non-breeding season, yellow-breasted Greenfinch occupies similar habitats but at lower altitudes.
