10 cm
Feeding Habits
Yellow-collared Chlorophonia's diet consists mainly of small berries and fruits, supplemented by insects. Yellow-collared Chlorophonia forages in trees, adeptly plucking food with a specialized bill. Unique preferences or adaptations were not specified.
Habitat
The yellow-collared Chlorophonia predominantly inhabits the canopy of humid to very wet lowland and pre-montane forests. This bird species favors forest borders, and is frequently found in older, taller second-growth woodlands, with a particular affinity for steep slopes. The yellow-collared Chlorophonia can also be found down to the edges of the coastal plain in Pacific regions but does not extend widely within lowland forests, where its presence may be more seasonal or localized. Their typical elevation range spans from lowlands around 100 meters up to 1900 meters, with most records situated from the base of foothills up to roughly 1200 meters, expanding to 450–1500 meters in certain areas.
