Description
The ashy-throated bush tanager (Chlorospingus canigularis) is a species of bird traditionally placed in the family Thraupidae, but perhaps closer to Arremonops in the Passerellidae. It is found in Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Panama, Peru, and Venezuela. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests, subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.

Ashy-throated Bush Tanager primarily consumes fruits. It forages in flocks, actively searching the understory for food. Unique adaptations for fruit consumption include a specialized beak shape. Prefers feeding on a variety of berries and small fruits.
Habitat
Ashy-throated Bush Tanager typically inhabits the canopy of tall, wet, and mossy forests, reveling in the vine-draped upper levels. They are frequently found along forest edges and within mature secondary growth. Occurring at elevations ranging from lowlands to cloud forests, ashy-throated Bush Tanager can also be seen in scattered trees within forest clearings. Geographically, these birds are distributed across the highlands of Central and South American regions, specifically in montane zones of the Andes.
