Yellow-throated Bush Tanager typically inhabits subtropical or tropical moist montane forests, including heavily degraded former forests. The species favors humid to wet mossy forests, forest borders, and different stages of second-growth woodlands. It is also found in areas with scattered trees in small pastures surrounded by forest.
