It is 18 to 23 cm long. The sexes are similar and their plumage is almost entirely dark brown. The throat is slightly paler with some buff speckling, there is a hint of a pale stripe over the eye and there is a faint reddish-brown bar on the wing. The bill is quite long, stout and slightly downcurved with a pale yellow spot at the base (lacking in Falkland birds). The song and calls are loud and high-pitched. The trilling song may be uttered from a perch or in flight.

Feeding Habits
Blackish Cinclodes primarily feeds on small invertebrates, supplementing its diet with fish regurgitated by seabirds, human leftovers, and carrion scraps. It forages in seaweed and by water edges, uniquely exploiting diverse food sources.
Habitat
The blackish Cinclodes frequents coastal regions, particularly favoring rocky shorelines strewn with kelp and areas dominated by tussac grass. They exhibit a strong association with marine mammal and seabird colonies, often reaching peak densities where these colonies exist. Their habitat extends from sea level to elevations of 200 meters and includes territories adjacent to human settlements. These birds also venture up to half a kilometer inland, where they inhabit Poa flabellata tussocks. Geographically, they are distributed across broad southern latitudes, including the Falkland Islands and the southernmost parts of Chile and Argentina.
