Description
The stout-billed cinclodes (Cinclodes excelsior) is a species of bird in the family Furnariidae. It is found in Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical high-altitude shrubland and subtropical or tropical high-altitude grassland.

Feeding Habits
Stout-billed Cinclodes predominantly eats invertebrates and occasionally small vertebrates like frogs, supplementing with some seeds. It forages alone or in pairs, probing and digging in mud or moist soil, and sometimes gleaning from low foliage.
Habitat
The habitat of stout-billed Cinclodes comprises mainly rocky páramo grasslands and montane environments replete with semi-humid to humid scrub. These birds favor areas in close proximity to water sources, such as streams and boggy meadows. They are also accustomed to barren landscapes peppered with occasional shrubbery and often inhabit Polylepis woodlands, where rock and volcanic features are essential for their nest-tunneling behavior.
