The long-tailed cinclodes (Cinclodes pabsti) is a species of bird in the family Furnariidae. It is endemic to Brazil. Its natural habitats are temperate grassland and pastureland. Rarer than previously believed, it is uplisted from a species of Least Concern to Near Threatened status in the 2007 IUCN Red List. The scientific name commemorates the Brazilian botanist Guido Frederico João Pabst.

Feeding Habits
Long-tailed Cinclodes primarily consumes arthropods and other invertebrates, gleaning them from the ground, grass, and water’s edge. They forage alone or in pairs, skillfully extracting prey from crevices, lichens, mosses, and grasses, often in quartzite outcrops or open fields.
Habitat
The long-tailed Cinclodes is commonly found in southern temperate grasslands, including pastures and agricultural lands. It prefers open, often rocky grasslands and is usually seen in proximity to water sources. These areas are typically close to human dwellings. Its habitat is characterized by moist conditions due to the trapping of air masses from the Atlantic Ocean, leading to frequent mist over the highest hilltops. The bird is also associated with montane savanna ecosystems known as campos rupestres, which feature a vegetation mix that includes families such as Velloziaceae, Eriocaulaceae, and Xyridaceae. While preferring higher terrain, isolated individuals may occasionally be found at lower elevations, often near sparsely occupied houses.
