Feeding Habits
Buff-winged Starfrontlet predominantly feeds on nectar from mistletoes, Bomarea, Cavendishia, and Fuchsia. This species also consumes arthropods, capturing them through hawking and gleaning. As a trap-liner, buff-winged Starfrontlet forages mainly at lower levels near forest edges and frequently perches close to flowers when feeding.
Habitat
Buff-winged Starfrontlet predominantly inhabits dense cloud forests and Polylepis woodlands within the broader sub-páramo biogeographical zone. These environments typically feature lush, verdant landscapes that provide a rich array of flora, offering ample food resources and shelter necessary for the species' survival. Buff-winged Starfrontlet thrives in these relatively undisturbed highland regions characterized by cooler temperatures and consistent cloud cover, embodying an ecosystem abundant in epiphytes and mosses.
