Feeding Habits
White-vented Violetear primarily feeds on nectar from various flowering plants including Eucalyptus and Bromeliaceae. It exhibits aggressive territorial behavior, chasing competitors away from flowers. White-vented Violetear also hunts insects, particularly at dusk. It starts feeding early morning and shows no preference for nutrient-enhanced nectar.
Habitat
The white-vented Violetear primarily occupies semi-open terrains such as scrubland, savannas, grasslands, and bushy gorges. It can be also found in sparse forests and prefers perching in shrubs and small trees that are near densely flowered areas. Its distribution spans a variety of non-elevated regions, including coastal zones and uplands, typically favoring areas with moderate altitude for habitat selection.
