Description
The long-tailed tyrant (Colonia colonus) is a species of bird in the family Tyrannidae, the only member of genus Colonia. It is found in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest, subtropical or tropical moist montane forest, and heavily degraded former forest.

Feeding Habits
Long-tailed Tyrant primarily feeds on insects like hymenopterans and coleopterans, including sweatbees and stingless bees. Long-tailed Tyrant exhibits unique hunting techniques, capturing prey mid-flight with agility.
Habitat
Long-tailed Tyrant thrives at the peripheries of tropical to upper tropical humid forests and secondary woodlands. Their preferred environments include gallery forest edges, Cecropia tree-dominated regions, and forest clearings. They also inhabit both active and abandoned plantations with dead snags and along forested riverbanks. Typically residing below 1200 meters, long-tailed Tyrant may occasionally range up to 1800 meters in altitude.
