Feeding Habits
Tamarugo Conebill primarily consumes caterpillars, including those of the Leptotes trigemmatus butterfly. Tamarugo Conebill forages in pairs or small groups, often forming mixed-species flocks, gleaning food from foliage.
Habitat
Tamarugo Conebill primarily resides in arid and dry zones, favoring habitats such as sparse woodlands with scrubby underbrush, notably areas populated by Polylepis and Gynoxys vegetation. A significant preference is shown for mature plantations of the tamarugo tree, Prosopis tamarugo. Tamarugo Conebill is also found in riverine scrub, agricultural areas, and citrus groves across broader South American arid regions.
