  The slaty gnateater (Conopophaga ardesiaca) is a species of bird in the family Conopophagidae. It is found in the Yungas of Bolivia and eastern Peru. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. The slaty gnateater has two sub-species: C. a. saturata von Berlepsch & Stolzmann, 1906 - southeast Peru C. a. ardesiaca D'Orbigny & Lafresnaye, 1837 - Bolivia and Peru

  Feeding Habits 
  Slaty Gnateater's diet consists primarily of arthropods. It forages through foliage and leaf litter, employing short reaches and gleans to capture prey, demonstrating a ground-oriented feeding behavior. 
    Habitat 
  The slaty Gnateater predominantly resides in the humid rainforests of foothills, favoring the densest vegetation such as regions surrounding treefalls, old clearings, and roadside edges. Their presence is noted in a variety of structurally diverse habitats within broad subtropical and tropical regions, often where thick undergrowth provides ample cover.
