Description
The smoke-colored pewee (Contopus fumigatus) is a species of bird in the family Tyrannidae. It is found in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, and Venezuela. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests, subtropical or tropical moist montane forests, and heavily degraded former forest.

Smoke-colored Pewee primarily feeds on insects, catching them in mid-flight from various perches. It exhibits a repetitive foraging cycle, returning to its perch after each sally, and displays a distinctive tail vibration upon landing.
Habitat
The smoke-colored Pewee inhabits humid montane forests, borders of such forests, and clearings that feature scattered trees. It is found across the broad geographical regions of the Andes and is locally present at lower elevations in the southwestern part of Ecuador. Its preference includes forested areas ranging from sea level to higher mountainous zones in parts of Venezuela.
