Feeding Habits
Purple-winged Roller primarily consume insects like locusts, grasshoppers, and beetles, and occasionally small reptiles. Exceptionally, one individual preyed on an adult Eurasian Tree Sparrow. Purple-winged Roller typically forage from a high perch, diving to catch prey on the ground or from trees.
Habitat
The habitat of purple-winged Roller encompasses partially closed, heavily wooded areas and forest edges. Purple-winged Roller frequents large clearings with residual big trees, dead or alive, and often perches on treetops within primary forests. In lower altitude zones, from sea-level to 800 meters, purple-winged Roller adapts to light woodlands, swamp forests, wooded savannas, and open scrub woodlands. Additionally, purple-winged Roller can be found in cultural landscapes such as cultivated areas and village outskirts with gardens, utilizing man-made structures like telegraph wires and dead branches for perching.
