Feeding Habits
Barred Cuckooshrike's diet consists primarily of fruit such as Ficus, Calamus, Terminalia, and Alphitonia, supplemented with insects like lepidopteran larvae, dragonflies, and beetles. It forages actively in the canopy, often in small groups and associates with other frugivores. Large congregations form in the non-breeding season.
Habitat
The barred Cuckooshrike primarily inhabits tropical and subtropical rainforests, including eucalypt forests, forest edges, and areas of secondary growth. They are drawn to woodlands, swamp-woodlands, scrub, plantations, and gardens, frequently found near native fig trees. While they are forest specialists in certain regions, showing a preference for woodland and open forest habitats for breeding, they typically avoid monoculture plantations. These birds are widespread across broader geographical regions, encompassing various island ecosystems within their range.
