Description

The little raven is a somewhat more sociable species than the Australian raven, often forming large flocks that roam freely over wide areas in search of food. Eye colour varies with age: nestlings up to three months old have blue-grey eyes, juveniles aged from three to eleven months have brown eyes, and immature birds have hazel eyes with blue eyerings around the pupil until age one year and eleven months.

Feeding Habits
Little Raven primarily consumes insects, preferring spiders, millipedes, centipedes (which are beheaded prior to consumption), grasshoppers, cicadas, and noctuid caterpillars. These invertebrates are crucial for feeding nestlings. Little Raven's omnivorous diet extends to opportunistic feeding, similar to other Corvus species, with ground foraging as a common behavior.
Habitat
The little Raven is a versatile species found across various terrestrial habitats, from alpine regions at elevations up to 2000 meters to coastal areas and semi-arid environments. It typically avoids dense rainforest but is prevalent in low or open woodlands, especially those dominated by eucalypt trees (Eucalyptus), as well as in pastoral lands and urban settings. The little Raven also frequents treeless grasslands, where it often forages in flocks, and is adaptable to living in regions encompassing scrublands, agricultural areas, and even suburban locales.
