Description
The crested coua (Coua cristata) is a medium-sized, approximately 44 cm long, greenish-grey coua with grey crest, blue bare orbital skin, rufous breast, brown iris, black bill and legs, white belly and long white-tipped purplish-blue tail feathers. The crested coua is distributed and endemic to forests, savanna and brushland of Madagascar. It is found from sea level to altitude of 900 metres.

Feeding Habits
Crested Coua predominantly eats insects, fruits, berries, and seeds. This bird actively forages on the ground and in the vegetation, snagging snails and catching chameleons with precise movements. Its diet reflects a mix of omnivorous preferences and adaptive foraging behaviors.
Habitat
The crested Coua predominantly inhabits primary and secondary forests, including littoral and deciduous formations, with a preference for drier areas and typical absence from wetter regions and some littoral forests. Its range extends across various landscapes such as savannas, spiny brushland, palm groves, and mangroves, and it can also be found in recently burnt forest areas. Geographically, crested Coua is native to broad regions at altitudes ranging from sea level to about 1150 meters, though it is mainly found below 700 meters in altitude.
